ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION LAUNCHED FOR NOBLESSNER

ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION LAUNCHED FOR NOBLESSNER

Kodusadam OÜ announces an open architectural competition for seaside buildings and urban space in Noblessner, Tallinn.
The competition is aimed at finding a stately, elegant and timeless architectural solution for the competition area that would add value to, and enrich, Noblessner Estate. The result will have to be in tune with the historical industrial buildings of the submarine shipyard and the modern urban space created in recent years.

According to Ivar Piirsalu, Board Member of Kodusadam OÜ, the area to be developed as a result of the competition is special in many aspects. ‘The competition area literally extends into the sea and includes a number of unique technical facilities of the historical submarine shipyard. The future buildings will also be a landmark for those arriving by sea, and there will be an esplanade running along the sea in front of them. An open architectural competition will be the right way to achieve the best result,’ he said.

According to architect Toomas Paaver, who was consulted about the terms and conditions of the competition, new buildings in Noblessner were essentially planned to be situated right on the coastline in accordance with the detailed land-use plan that was established about ten years ago. ‘Those buildings would be seemingly hanging above the esplanade and the public space. It is a spatially complex situation that offers a lot of opportunities. Among the matters to be solved will be a friendly and ecologically balanced, coherent and ample outdoor space surrounding the buildings. All this will require a very professional and certainly a creative approach. A proper architectural competition is the only right choice for finding solutions of such kind,’ he explained.

The prize fund for the competition will be €50,000 for the winner; €35,000 for the 2nd prize; €20,000 for the 3rd prize; and €10,000 for each of the five consolation prizes.

The competition jury will be composed of:
